Some clubs now barring metal spikes · No members from outside area Due to the change in Summer Tournament groupings there were a number of discussions regarding prizes for the winners of the second eight in each group.
Membership from outside our area, North Harbour was not adverse to any of their members joining our organisation. However it was agreed that we would not accept members from outside our area. Soft spikes were being introduced and it seemed that at some clubs at least metal spikes were being barred. Members will have to be advised regarding these clubs. Progressive starting times as used at Pakuranga were well accepted by members. It’s assumed that these the small red cards that are no longer in use, today’s system is for the members starting order to be written on their scorecards at the check in table.

Tournament fee increased to $75.00 then reduced to $60. Due to Phil Bygraves announcing his intention to retire at years end, there was discussion to see if Secretary/Treasurer could be split into two positions. Bluey also thought it would be a good idea for the Secretary to tee off early to allow him time for his duties at game's end.
At the May meeting it was advised to all that Maurice Ransfield would take over from Phil. It was agreed that the position should remain as Secretary/Treasurer. At the October meeting it was agreed to raise playing day charges to $12 from $10. The decision was made to increase the entry fee for the Summer Tournament to $75 this was subsequently reduced to $60. At the November meeting Maurice Ransfield advised that he was resigning from the Committee for personal reasons.

Lions award $2778 grant for new computer. After the game at Papakura, Women vs Men, Red Boyle said we would have to try and encourage more men to play in this challenge game. My how things have changed now in (2010) it’s Lady Vets that struggle to increase their membership.
An older member brought up the matter of how many balls for a hole in two, it was confirmed that in September 1988 the number was agreed to be two. However a later Committee rescinded this and reduced the number to one.
The Secretary advised that the Society had obtained a grant from The Lion Foundation of $2,778, to purchase a new computer which cost $2,815. Suitable thank you notices were published in local papers covering this generous donation. Mr Murray MacKay was accepted as a member although he belonged to the Peninsula Golf Club; the Secretary was reminded that our rules only allowed members of Auckland area clubs to join. In later years this was rescinded. During the playing year the daily charge was raised to $15.

Papakura Golf Club closes
Papakura, Huntly & Ngaruawahia considered. The February monthly meeting was the last to be held on a Friday at the Grange Golf Club and since then they have been held after one of our Monday games, this relieved the Committee from having to make time out of their schedule. It has worked very well, however due to mostly limited time after the game minutes have been of a briefer nature. Not, I must assure you, to the detriment of members. At the April meeting we were advised the Papakura was closing and dates was sought from Huntly and Ngaruawahia golf Clubs.
There was a request to apply for a reduced cart charge for Vets; some courses did give discounts. It was suggested from the floor that the incoming Committee look at lowering the entry age to 55 years. Cash on hand $8,181

< www.aklvets.org.nz > website goes online. During the year various comments were made regarding the Covic Shield matches being played on a Monday which affected our playing numbers. The Secretary checked and it was apparent that our members own club's Vets' days were held throughout the week therefore we could not change from Monday games.
The August meeting report confirmed that Ross Bryon of Maungakiekie had arranged for the Society to have a website, for this we are all grateful to the work Ross put in and he still looks after the web site, which is appreciated.
Looking at these minutes it can seen that the Secretary's over the years have had to struggle with a number of Golf Clubs in obtaining what was thought to be acceptable Green Fee charges.
New jerseys were being purchased and the Secretary was asked to endeavour to obtain a grant towards the cost, in this he was not successful.
It’s noted that on our second visit to Maungakiekie with it being a very wet day, only 4 players braved the weather and actually played a game.

‘Clean & Place’ or ‘Play the Lie’ to be determined by host club. We again endeavoured to obtain a grant towards our four day tournament again without success. The Committee were advised that it seems Huapai would be prepared to hold a game, however as their cost would be $1,200 this was deemed unacceptable.
The Secretary advised that for a number of years the printing of our programme had been done through a broker. Due to knowing someone at Capital Press we are now having printing handled by them. There was small saving in cost but communication was much improved.
At the November meeting it was decided that in future all Vet games would be played under the conditions of the day as set down by the clubs, that is Clean & Place or Play the Lie, not just always Clean & Place.
As there was a small increase in cash at years end it was confirmed that our daily charge would remain at $15. The Secretary did say that perhaps it may have to rise to $20 next year. We are now in the year 2011 and our daily cost remains at $15.

Secretary declines honorarium. Entrance & Sub fees increased to $20. At the first Committee meeting an honorarium for Secretary was discussed however the Secretary said it was not needed.
The Secretary had located a Winter Cup trophy donated by Mr B Carr it was agreed to play for this yearly in the winter. Mr T Inagaki donated a trophy which is to be played for at Grange, his home golf club. For our four day tournament there was a number of discussions regarding prize levels. The Secretary was empowered to purchase a computer at a cost of $1,201.50 this was after numerous requests for grants had been declined from a number of trusts.
It was agreed that we increase our Entry & Subscription charges by $5. The Secretary arranged to have all golf balls handed out weekly to carry the Society’s logo.

Entrance Fee raised to $30, Subscription stays at $20. Due to changes at JK Sports we now no longer receive a $500 donation towards our four day tournament. It was agreed that as from 1 December 2007 that Entrance Fee be $30 and Subscription be $20. It was agreed that as well as two golf balls our daily winner should also receive a voucher for the next game he plays — a saving of $15. Secretary asked to look at putting surplus funds on interest-bearing deposit. Again it arose at the Annual Meeting that due to rising petrol costs members look at car pooling.

Revised Constitution adopted. Honours Board finds home at Remuera. An Online Savings account was opened at Westpac as suggested and money started to flow back and forth as required. Our first months interested earned was $55.66 this compares well to our last years interest of $62.20. Due to the exchange rate being in our favour, we purchase 350 golf balls direct from the USA at a cost of $1,396. The
Secretary had secured sponsorship from PAKnSAVE Glen Innes of $15 vouchers to cover our daily winner prize. Such vouchers have to be redeemed at the Glen Innes shop.
Having signed up for the Total Home package with Telecom the Secretary suggested that he charge the Society a fixed monthly charge; this was agreed to. Finance helped by increased Entry and Subscription charges and total increased interest yearly earnings our cash position improved. A revised Constitution was presented to the meeting and confirmed by all those in attendance. A request was made to the Remuera Golf Club to have our Honours Board displayed at their club, to which they agreed. This was very generous of the club which was appreciated by the Society.

Foursomes to require total fees at booking in time. There have always been players wanting to book for four players, so to ensure that we do not have gaps in the field due to non arrivals the decision was made that players wishing to book four names have to pay the full cost at the same time. If there any no shows there will not be any refunds. When having Shotgun Starts it is policy to hold back some of the nearer holes in case there are late arrivals. This does not please those who arrive early but makes sense as then all can start on time, there are many reasons why players arrive late.
